A Home Care Package is a fixed amount of money allocated by the government to provide services aimed at allowing you to continue living independently. The amount of money provided depends on your needs, as determined by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) assessor.
A Home Care Package provides access to a wider range of services, more freedom to choose what services you spend your funds on, and the reassurance that once your package has been allocated it stays in place.
Home care packages are able cover a wider range of care and support. There are four levels of Home Care Packages available:
The fist step to accessing government-funded aged care services is to apply for an assessment with MyAgedCare.
by calling 1800 200 422 or registering online.
You can complete this application yourself or on behalf of a friend or family member.
Level 1 Home Care Packages (HCP Level 1) are designed to support people who have basic level care needs.
HCP Level 1 holders would generally benefit from having a minor level of support in their own home.
Level 1 Home Care Packages are suitable if you or your loved one wish to prevent premature or unnecessary admission into a residential aged care home.
Basic level care needs can include basic everyday tasks.
Level 2 Home Care Packages ( HCP Level 2 ) are aimed at supporting people who have low level care needs.
Recipients of a HCP Level 2 may also be eligible to enter residential aged care, but would prefer to remain living at home.
If you or a loved one has low level care needs, you may be eligible to receive assistance with a range of tasks.
Level 3 Home Care Packages ( HCP Level 3 ) are designed to support people who have intermediate level care needs.
Recipients of a HCP Level 3 would more than likely be eligible to enter residential aged care, but would prefer to remain living in their own home.
HCP Level 3 would also be suitable for people recovering from surgery who need nursing care within their own home.
If you or a loved one has intermediate level care needs, you may be eligible to receive assistance with a variety of tasks.
Level 4 Home Care Packages ( HCP Level 4 ) are intended to support people who have high level care needs.
If you or a loved one has high level or complex care needs, you may be eligible to receive assistance with a range of tasks, including:
