The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

A little bit of help can go a long way

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (known as CHSP) aims to assist you to remain in your own home, enjoy the community that you are a part of and maintain your independence.

The programme provides entry level care if you are managing on your own but just need a little bit of help, or medium to short term care of you only need help for a short period of time, or whilst waiting for other funding to become available.

Under the CHSP services are subsidised, meaning that you pay per individual service. Services are tailored to your needs, and to the type of care you have been approved to receive.

Are CHSP Services right for you?

You are eligible to receive help under the CHSP if:

  • You are 65 years or older, or over 50 years of age if you identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • You want to maintain your independence and continue living in your own home.
  • You are finding that you need a bit of support with daily tasks, or to give your carer a break in order to continue living at home.

BNWG has a dedicated Aged Care Team who will help you and your family through the process of accessing funding for the support you need.

If you are already registered with My Aged Care, the next step is to have your eligibility assessed by the Regional Assessment Service (RAS). A RAS assessor will assess your needs, eligibility and financial situation through an interview.

If you haven’t already registered with My Aged Care, our Aged Care Team can help you with that too.

After your assessment My Aged Care will send Bucketts Way Neighbourhood Group a referral for the specific services that will help you stay independent and in your own home.
